This year the orthopedic group I work for had our summer party at Lagoon. It was GREAT. I was able to have my husband, our 3 children, and our grandson with us. Gabriel is 15 months old now and I was amazed at how well he did. He began the day with playing in the water before we even had a chance to look at the rides or the games. He is so stinkn' cute I can't get enough of him. He even rode the kiddie rides all by himself. We stayed all day long almost until closing time. We played games, watched Gabriel have fun, and just had good quality family time together. Our kids are young adults and so it's not often that we are all together at once. It was a very nice thing to spend the day with them and enjoy ourselves. Now I can't wait for the day that we take our grandson to Disney World!!

If you know anything about me.... you know that I am/was deathly afraid to swim in any water that has fish in it. This vacation I vowed to myself that I would get in the ocean even if it were just for a minute. My loving husband signed us up for a boating tour that would include snorkeling and mini sub diving. On the way out to the spot in the Sea of Cortez where this was to take place , my stomach was going crazy and alot of scary thoughts were going through my mind. Long story short.. I DID IT!!! I jumped into the sea with MANY fish below me awaiting my entrance into their domain. I went snorkeling with my husband, and also was brave enough to go mini sub diving. This was a small scooter-like thing that you sat on while your head is in an oxygen filled dome over your head (no mouth piece or tubing needed) and you dive into the depths of the ocean where you follow a diver to the reef and where you actually see and touch and hold a sea urchin, a puffer fish, and a very large conch shell with it's occupant still in it. It was AMAZING!! The water was 72 degrees. That is until you dive deeper where it then felt like it was in the 50's. For right now I only have pictures of me in the ocean snorkeling, but will soon post some pictures of the the sub diving. If you have a chance to go on a mini sub dive, DO IT !! If I can do it... anyone can.

Well sad but true...our vacation has come and gone. It was amazing!! While we were there we had so much fun shopping, swimming, laying out, eating, drinking (not sodas), boating, snorkeling ( yes I said it) snorkeling, mini sub diving in the Sea of Cortez, walking on the beach with my honey, and just being with my family. I can't beleive my grandson is already 10 months old. He is so much fun. He is walking along furniture without help, he eats pretty much everything, he has 8 teeth (and counting), he loves for us to sing to him, and he is the center of our EVERYTHING. Love you baby Gabe!!

9 More Weeks Til CABO

It's only 9 more weeks til Fun in the Sun!! We are taking Brittney to Cabo San Lucas for her graduation gift. It's going to be a blast. Who's all going?? Roger, Me, Britt, Marco (her boyfriend),Vanessa, Gabriel, Grandma and Grandpa Garcia (my parents). Vanessa and Lil Gabe received their passports last weekend. The condo is reserved, the plane tickets are purchased, we just need to get through with the actual graduation. I can't believe my last "baby" is 18 and well on her way to adulthood. I tear up just thinking about it! The senior class has already turned in all of their text books and their last official day of school is May 14th. The senior class will be having a Baccalaureate ceremony on May 18th at the Cathedaral of the Madeline and then the Commencement will be the 22nd of May at Juan Diego Catholic High School. Her father and I are so very proud of her. We have a BIG party planned for her on the 22nd and we can't wait. We have rented a place, gotten a DJ (thanks to my friend Johnny), and now are just working on the menu. Of course I will be posting ALOT about this big moment in our lives that is about to take place. So here's your warning. Gabriel is now 9 months old and already has 4 teeth (3 on the bottom 1 on the top). This past weekend he has been so sick. He started with a fever on Friday night (100.9). Saturday he had a fever that Tylenol or Motrin would take away for about an hour, he was cranky, and didn't do much. Sunday was no better, other than the 4th tooth (the one on the top) finally broke through the gums. Monday he was pretty much the same but now he wasn't even interested in eating. He still did want to drink. Tuesday, he doesn't want to eat or drink and now his neck/throat area is really swollen. Of course his pediatrician is not able to see him so they recommend he go to the ER. Primary Children's Hospital is awesome!! Baby Gabe had to have an IV so he could have a CT scan of the throat to make sure there was nothing there was going to block his airway. This was not fun watch. Vanessa had a hard time watching her baby go through this, but did an awesome job. She is such a loving and wonderful 1st time mom. Thank goodness the staff that placed the IV were good and fast. The CT was negative for a blockage and only showed swollen lymph nodes. He has some fluid behind his right ear drum too but not an ear infection. What it all means is it's a VIRUS + TEETHING = one sick baby. Get well soon baby gabe.

Well..... for the second time in the history of our school, our girl's basketball team made it this far. Unfortuneately... we lost. This was the best season EVER for the girls and it was a great learning experience for the players and parents a like. Thanks to a wonderful boss and awesome co-workers, I was able to attend all but one of my daughter's games this season. That means the WORLD to me and Britt. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

This is this years girl's basketball team motto. They have come a LONG way this season. They have worked hard, and even with 3 girls needing knee surgery during this season...(ONE of the girls was my own Britt) we have made it to the Playoffs and hope to win the State Championship!! After missing several games due to having knee surgery for a torn meniscus and a strained ACL, Britt played last Friday which was the first game in the playoffs and was the leading scorer with 14 points. Her team did awesome!! We are so very proud of her. That night she was was on channel 2 news making a shot and the team was highlighted. This month we had "Senior Night" before our last home game. On this night we have 2 seniors on the varsity team and this was their night to say "goodbye". They were each given a Juan Diego basketball signed by all of the teammates, flowers, balloons, candy, a cute basketball shaped scrapbook with a note to each girl from their teammates, and a professional picture of both of them together on the court and individual action shots. It was exciting and bitter sweet at the same time. Oh, and did I mention.... we won that night!! Sorry Morgan H.S.

So.... I know that I've been slacking on my blog. This past weekend I actually found time to download some pictures off of our camera so now I will try to get my blog up to date.Here we goooooo.

In July we finally finished baby Gabe's room. It turned out pretty cute. The pictures don't do it any justice, but you get the picture. Roger's Oma (grandma) passed away.

In August our youngest daughter began her senior year of high school. I can't believe it!!!!!

In September we had 2 weddings in the family within 2 weeks of each other. Both on Roger's side of the family.

October -not too eventful.

November- Roger and I celebrated our 15 year wedding anniversary. As a gift to eachother we flew to Colorado (my home state) and had a GREAT time visiting with my Uncle, Aunt and cousins.

December - This year we had a very nice holiday season. All of us were happy and healthy and had Christmas at our house together. It was baby Gabe's first Christmas and it's was so cute watching him get so excited over just the wrapping paper, ribbons, bows, and boxes. I can't wait for this year when he'll be old enough to truly enjoy his gifts and open them himself.

January - A busy new year. Winter's ball for Britt. Britt and Marco look so cute in pink. Britt's basketball season is well underway and we have been working in concessions every home game, went to Richfield with the team to chaperone, and had a fun time.

Today Roger and I took our kids and baby Gabe to the zoo. It was great. The weather was nice, and although there was alot of people.... it wasn't too packed. We were able to see the new baby elephant and the new baby tigers, baby giraffe, and baby snow leopard. All of which were soooo darn cute. But the cutest baby of all OF COURSE..... was Gabriel. Uncle Matt and Aunt Britt helped alot with the baby and we all had a great time. Thanks kids. I love you all sooo very much.

Britt's cute boyfriend and his family invited us to stay with them at their cabin in Strawberry. This was our second time up there and it was very relaxing. The adults didn't do much but stay at the cabin to eat, drink, nap, and play games. The others went boating, boarding, and swimming. We hope to go up to the cabin at least one more time before the summer is over. Thanks to the Garcia/Serrato family for inviting us. We LOVED it.

The week was fun. We left Salt Lake City on Monday the 13th headed for Colorado for some fun. Unfortunately Roger could not come with us so it was Matthew,Brittney,Marco and myself who drove and Vanessa and baby Gabriel flew. We arrived within an hour of eachother. The week was spent eating ,sleeping,playing, shopping, visiting, a movie "X-Men" and more eating. My main reason for going was to reunite with my family on my father's side and let my children and grandson meet them also. It was great and went better than I ever imagined. It was sad when it was time to go. I hope that soon I can go back and take Roger to meet them.

The original shower was scheduled for June 6th. As you all know, baby Gabriel decided to come early and was born on June 4th. We were able to have a family baby shower before he came into our world and we had a baby shower with friends when Gabriel was just 1 week old. Needless to say....he was spoiled with gifts. Thank you to all of our family and friends for the wonderful things you gave to my grandson. We appreciate it so much. Here are some pictures from the 1st shower and one from the 2nd shower.

Everybody......Meet Gabriel

On Thursday 6/4/09 at 7:02pm our precious grandson came into the world. Our day began at 3am with a phone call from Vanessa. She was having contractions and they were pretty intense and about every 5 to 7 minutes. At 3:30 she called me again to say that she was ready to go to the hospital. I immediately got out of bed, got dressed, brushed my teeth, and was on my way. Her and I arrived at the hospital at 4:05am and were taken right up to labor and delivery. After being checked, we were told that she was 1 cm dilated. She was placed on monitors and given some morphine to see if she would relax and hopefully dilate more so that she would not be sent home. SURPRISE. The morphine worked. She was now 3 cm. The day went on and when she reached 4 cm she was given her epidural. She was now able to get some much needed sleep.Her midwife came shortly after the epidural and broke the bag of waters and much to her surprise...it was filled with meconium (baby poop). Pretty quickly she dilated to 8cm. Unfortunately she stayed at 8 and now after each contraction, little Gabriel's heart rate was going down to the low 50's and then rising up to the high 150's. This alarmed the midwife and Doctor, and so it was decided that a C-section was what was needed to get this little angel out safely. From the first incision to him taking his first breath outside of his mommy, only took approximately 7 minutes. I was overwhelmed with emotion. I saw them cut into my "little girl", and saw my grandson come into this world. What a blessing. He weighed 6 lbs 6 oz and was 19 inches long. He is so relaxed and content. I hope you enjoy these pics and get ready for MANY more.

I woke up to a gifts from my daughters. Vanessa bought me a skirt and a cute summer sweater (now I have an outfit for todays B-B-Q). Thanks Ness. I love you. Britt made me cry with her gift. It is a frame with 2 pics of my little Elvira and a loving poem inside. Thank you Birdie. I love you too. Even though I cried, I LOVE my gift more than words can express. My son Matthew called me and wished a happy mothers day and he is spending the day with us today. How lucky am I??? I love my kids and my husband so very much. Thank God that my health is good and that I can be here with all of them.

My little love "Elvira" died of unknown reasons. My heart hurts still whenever I think about her. I know some people think I'm silly for loving my dog so much but I miss my four legged friend that was there unconditionally to give me kisses when I got home after a long day at work, sit on my lap and lick my tears when I cried tears of sadness, lay next to me at bedtime to cuddle. This year was Roger's 9th year of coaching at St. Ann's school. This was his year to win the championship. WAY TO GO !!! He is responsible for teaching Brittney alot of her basketball skills and this is why she is soooo talented. I am so proud of them.

This years basketball season for Brittney was very frustrating. They were better than last year, but the coach is still learning what each player has to offer and what their talents are. I think this year she was able to see what she is looking for and now I hope whe will apply it to next years team. At this years basketball banquet Brittney was awarded with 2 awards and she again "lettered" in the sport of basketball. This is her 3rd time. Her awards were for " BEST HUSTLE" and "BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER". This summer she will also be in a tournament in San Diego. Roger and I are so proud of her and her accomplishments. I can't wait for next year's season. The head coach has asked Roger if he would be interested in helping coach. Of course he said "YES".

Today Roger's cousin Stephanie married her best friend. The bride was beautiful! The ceremony was very nice and the whole wedding party looked AWESOME. My daughter Vanessa did all of the hairdo's for the bride and her wedding party (girls only). The reception was held at the Log Haven. The food was good and the entertainment was fun. The DJ they hired did a very nice job. It was nice just sitting and watching everybody have such a good time. I even was able to dance a slow dance with my hubby. My girls even got out on the dance floor. It all was such a special day not only because it was a wedding, but also because the bride and the groom came from Missouri. She is a physician who specializes in family practice and he makes computer software that helps neurosurgeons. They had great friends that came all the way from Missouri also and family and friends from places like Colorado, California and other parts. I wish them the best of luck, love and everlasting happiness and look forward to the next wedding which will be the bride's sister Kristen. October will be here before she knows it!! To my hubby.... thanks for the dance. I love you so very much!! Hurry home from Pennsylvania.

Recovery

I am recovering from surgery and it's been easier with the help of my loving husband, mom, dad, my loving kids, and some special family members and of course some great friends. I want to thank you (you know who you are) for your support and thoughtfulness during this time of medical drama. I love you all very much. The flowers, the chocolates, the heating pad, the phone calls, and the chicken dinner. Wow!!! I better get started on some very deserved "Thank You" cards and things.

Surgery was yesterday and all went well. They were able to remove the ovary and mass and diagnosed it as a "endometrioma". I have 5 small incisions and 1 incision that is about 4 inches long. The preliminary report says "no cancer". The final pathology report will take about 1 week. I still have ALOT of endometriosis, but the doctor says if I can hold off on taking any Estrogen for about 6 months, this will kill all of it. I am hoping to return to light duty some time next week. Thanks to all of my family, sweet friends and co-workers for putting up with me while I was struggling with this latest medical problem. You were all awesome and so supportive. I'm positive that the prayers had some help in my diagnosis. I love all of you.

What's going on with Trish???

It's been awhile since I've put anything onto my blog, and I know some people are wondering "what's going on with Trish"?. I'll try and explain the best that I can. Here it goes. On Wednesday the 4th of February I went to the ER with severe right sided pain in my abdomen. According to the doctor, I had the classic signs and symptoms of appendicitis. The sure way of diagnosing was to have a CT scan with contrast so it would light up the appendix. After waiting what seemed like an eternity...... the results were in and "bad news" was written all over the physicians face. I thought he was going to tell me that my appendix had ruptured and that I was on my way to the OR (operating room). Needless to say, the news was NOT what I expected. I have a 7cm mass (tumor) on my right ovary, and he suspects it's ovarian cancer. WHAT?!The big "C"?? Next I was to have an ultrasound to make sure that the ovary was not twisted and that it still had good blood flow. If there was not, then I would go straight to surgery to have this removed and if there was blood flow, I would go home and see a GYN the next day. Well there is just enough to keep the ovary alive, so I went home. I saw the GYN who went over the CT findings with me again and she also wanted to draw a lab test called CA125. This test is specifically for ovarian cancer. She felt that this would come out normal, but wanted to cover all basis so we went ahead with the test. On Monday the 9th my world STOPPED for a brief moment. The news was not what she thought it would be and it wasn't good. Her hope was that the result would be a number less than 35. My result was 452.7(four hundred fifty two). Was this REALLY happening????? My husband had just left to Pennsylvania for business and we also had an unexpected death in the family. I have been off work for a week to let all of this digest. Roger finally came home early Saturday morning on Valentine's day (another mess up at the airport kept him 1 more day than expected). After a good LONG cry and being in the arms of the love of my life........ I am ready to fight this!!! I've always thought of myself as being strong willed and stubborn as all hell, well now here's my time to bring it all out. I have an appointment on Friday the 20th with an Oncologist and my surgery will be at the Huntsman Cancer Institute shortly after my visit. With the love, prayers, and help of my husband, my kids, my angel of a mother, my awesome dad, and all of my dear friends and co-workers..... I WILL GET THROUGH THIS!!!! I want to thank all of my friends at work for your concern, your prayers, your funny emails to lift my spirits, the text messages, and covering my job. I love you all!

Today I went with my daughter for her ultrasound appointment. The baby had an audience. It was his mom, his dad, me (grandma Trish), and my parents (great-grandpa and grandma Garcia). It's official...... She's having a boy.

Today I received a phone call from Marco (Britt's boyfriend). He wanted to know if it was alright to decorate our yard in order to answer Britt's invite to the Winter Dance that is this Saturday. Of course I said "yes". I called Roger to let him in on the secret and he got a kick out of it. Here is what the yard looked like.

Well...............we lost again. We played a good game, but it just wasn't enough. Britt played real hard and even was hurt in the 2nd quarter. She went up for the ball and her shin was caught on another girl's knee brace. OUCH!! Keeping our chins up. Hey! Maybe next year. GOOOOO EAGLES !!

christmas 2008

This Christmas was different. It came so fast and I just wasn't feeling it. I didn't even put up a tree or decorate the house. My children and parents must have felt the same because it didn't bother them either. All in all, Christmas day was nice. We were together, everyone was happy and healthy, and we spent the whole day together while the UGLY storm passed us by. I have a gut feeling that 2009 is going to be much better. I hope all my friends and extended family had a good holiday season. Happy New Year!!

On January 3rd Juan Diego Girls Basketball team will be playing against their rivals Judge Memorial. This game will be held at Judge Memorial's gym. The varsity girls will play at 6:00 pm. This year our girls have been working hard and have come a long way with Coach McKray. This is the coaches 2nd year with the girls and she is doing an awesome job. I think this year we have a great chance at winning against Judge. BRING IT ON !!!

Tonight we had the annual dinner with Roger's family. It was very nice. It was even better because Oma was able to be there. She has had a rough few months and at one point I think all of us thought she wouldn't make it another day. It's always nice being with family and sharing laughs, gifts and good food. I hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday season. Merry Christmas!

2008 OSG holiday luncheon

Today we had our holiday luncheon at work. It turned out pretty nice. The decorations were awesome and everybody remembered to bring the food item they signed up for. Everybody was in a Christmas mood. We played BINGO and exchanged "white elephant" gifts. That's always fun.

Yummy Christmas Goodies

Today my mom and I baked some very yummy goodies. We made peanut brittle, fudge, chocolate cupcakes that have cream cheese filling, white cupcakes with crushed pepperint candy and topped with a cherry, chocolate truffles sprinkled with cocoa or powdered sugar or nuts, and chocolate chip cookies (with and without walnuts). I had been participating in a "no sweets or treats" thing at work since 10/31 and did really good. I even lost 5+ pounds. Today I caved!! I had 2 chocolate chip cookies. They were sooo good and warm right out of the oven.

This pic was taken Dec 14, 2008 up by Brighton. My friend Andrea bought herself a new camera and took this picture of Roger and I. It didn't turn out so bad. It was such a beautiful day. I want to get more and more pictures taken with Roger and I. My other friend Tracy is going to take my family pictures for me soon and and I can't wait. I think the last time I had a picture of my kids together was at least 6 years ago. That's way too long!

2008 Simplex Grinnell Holiday Party

This year the company party was at "Cafe Trio". This was a nice evening out. We had assigned seating which made it interesting. I had the baked penne which was very tasty and Roger had chicken with rice and vegetables. I also had a drink I had never tried before. It was a Rosemary Mojito. YUM. Merry Christmas everybody.

Today my husband and I went with my friend Andrea up to take some pics of the mountains and the fresh snow that came down yesterday. It was so beautiful and not very cold either. She has also talked us into going with her after the new year to snow shoe. I can't wait! I've never been snow shoing, but I'm actually excited.

Juan Diego's girl's basketball season 08-09

On Tuesday the 25th, Britt's 1st game of the season was in Logan at Logan High. We lost, but it was a good game anyway. I love watching her play the sport that she loves sooo much. I'm also proud to say that her dad taught her all she knows about the sport. My heart leaps when she steps out onto the court.

Johnsons Mill

Nuevo Vallarta 2008

This summer we went to Nuevo Vallarta (about 15 minutes from Puerto Vallarta). Our 2 oldest children opted not to go. We got to swim with a dolphin which was one of the BEST things I've ever done. I want to do it again!!
